01 /  Onboarding

Interested in working with us? Start by filling out our online contact form to schedule a complimentary 20-minute Discovery Call. During this call, we’ll discuss your project needs, timeline, budget, and scope of work, while introducing you to our process and studio ethos. At CLD, the client relationship is the starting point of our process and the foundation of our work.

After a successful Discovery Call, we’ll book an initial Design Consultation. This may involve walking through your space or, for new builds, meeting in the studio to review preliminary plans. We’ll refine the project scope, take initial measurements, address design opportunities or challenges, review your inspiration, and get to know you better. From there, we’ll craft a tailored Design Proposal and, once you’re ready, send our Agreement for your signature.

02 / creative discovery

We begin every project with our Creative Discovery Process, gathering essential project details, from site measurements and reference photos to establishing your unique priorities and functional needs.

Our site assessment and measurement of the existing space creates the foundation for all future planning and design. In the case of a new build this stage includes reviewing architectural plans so we can best advise you concerning your interior space planning and finishes. While familiarizing ourselves with the space in question we will also be discussing your values and priorities for the project, your budget and your specific functional needs. We seek to observe the way you move and function in your space so that we can help you optimize your built environment, at home or work. If you’re a business we’re here to help you synthesize your space with your brand and business strategy.

03 /  design development

Design Development is where we take the priorities and strategies we’ve identified with you in the creative discovery process and begin to envision your space. We’ll create detailed space plans, sketches and elevations, and curate materials, fixtures and finishes for your review. Our Initial Design Presentation showcases the potential for your space and the design direction we’ve crafted in response to your vision, while offering you a chance to provide feedback before we proceed to the next phase.

04 /  construction drawings & specifications package

Your design direction is translated into a set of technical construction drawings together with a specifications package that details all finishes and fixtures. Drawings include floor and ceiling plans, electrical plans and detailed elevations of custom millwork and architectural elements. This ensures contractors have all the information they need to accurately price and build your project. Thoughtful consideration and research go into the sourcing and selection of materials and fixtures to ensure they meet the functional requirements of the project and any relevant safety codes. Attention and care are given to each and every detail of your project to create a space that is tailored to you - seamlessly sophisticated and functional.

05 / project construction management

A crucial piece to realizing your vision – we’re here to advocate on your behalf!

As your liaison, CLD coordinates with and supports your construction team from start to finish to provide you with an exceptional experience. This includes on-site reviews at crucial points throughout the construction process to ensure that the design direction and vision are being executed with attention to detail and quality craftsmanship. When the contractor has questions on site or something unexpected comes up, we’re there to take the call, answer questions and problem solve, allowing you to enjoy the process.

06 / furniture curation & styling

We thoughtfully curate the selection of furnishings, window coverings, art and accessories that add layers of warmth, character and function to your space. These items deserve careful consideration to reflect you, your life, your work, your loves and travels, with authenticity and timeless appeal. We manage procurement and installation to ensure a seamless experience that brings your vision to life and tells your story with every detail.

Chandra Laine Design is proud to share the benefits of cultivated trade relationships with our clients. We’re excited to offer our clients access to custom and trade only furnishings through our carefully selected vendors.

FAQs

It’s never too early! As a small studio dedicated to crafting one of a kind projects and providing an exceptional customer experience we limit our workload. Keep in mind that our studio will have a line up of projects on the go and so will your contractor. The sooner you get in touch the sooner we can ensure that we’ve slotted you into our schedules to meet your ideal timeline. As a general rule our studio requires a minimum of three months to complete the onboarding and design phase of a full service interior design project however this timeline will vary based on the extent of the scope of work.

Time is also a requirement for truly creative work. Our desire is to create something uniquely you and that begins with our creative discovery process and taking time to get to know you, your values, your story and all the functional needs to be addressed in your project. We also don’t want your project to be limited in what we’re able to select based on lead time issues. Great materials, fixtures and bespoke furnishings take time and we want to be able to source and deliver the best for you. We want your experience and the final result to be exceptional!

You do not need to have hired your contractor before reaching out to us! While we are happy to work with your desired contractor if you already have them on board, we can also make recommendations and assist you with putting together your ideal project team, including but not limited to the general contractor, draftspeople, or architectural, mechanical and electrical consultants.

You do not need to have your entire new build, residential or commercial renovation planned out before contacting CLD. We know that you want to come to us with a fully formed plan in mind, but this is where our studio is able to offer you the greatest value. We have spent years honing our skills in space planning and creative problem solving. Founder, Chandra Thiessen, has a four year Bachelor of Interior Design, (not to mention a four year Fine Arts degree that informs the nuance of her work), and ten years of experience in the industry with continued professional development. Our years of education and experience have been dedicated to optimizing space plans to get the best results based on our clients’ desires and needs.

We are able to provide you with exceptional value when you include us in your process from the very beginning, by helping to avoid costly mistakes in your initial planning. We are dedicated to working with you to create a space that will feel good and function seamlessly for years to come. Our technical education includes learning the building code to ensure public safety, barrier free requirements and applicable knowledge for designing homes for people to age in place. We are well versed in anthropometrics, which is the practice of applying the measurements and movement of the human body to the design of the built environment. Things like how high can someone reach and what height a vanity should be, the list goes on!

As an aside, if you already have preliminary plans from a builder, draftsperson, or architect we’d love to see them! Allow us to bring our years of education and experience to the table to provide feedback and assist you in refining your plans to ensure the interior spaces have been optimized to meet your needs and take advantage of every design opportunity.
